Living Forward: How Christine Jensen Lost 100 Pounds And Conquered Emotional Eating At Age 50 (VIDEO)

Christine Jensen, age 50, had struggled with emotional eating and weight issues since her twenties. But over the last 18 months she has completely overhauled her lifestyle, losing 100 pounds after adopting new eating and exercise habits.

"My being overweight was such a representation of how unhappy I was," Christine says now. "I don't ever want to take all of my self-confidence from how much I weigh, but it does make a difference." In this episode of Living Forward, we sit down with Christine to learn more about how she did it.

  • Diet Trap: Fancy Coffee Drinks

Mochas and lattes, can be loaded with fat and calories, but may still leave you hungry when you're done. Quick fix: Request nonfat milk in a 12-ounce latte instead of whole milk and save 80 calories and 9 grams (g) of fat. Hold the whipped cream in mochas and save 50 calories or so.

  • Diet Trap: Soda Pop

Soft drinks are a major source of calories, with 12 ounces weighing in at 150 calories. Even worse, most vending machines and convenience stores offer larger sizes with even more calories. Quick fix: Switch to diet soda, unsweetened flavored waters or, better yet, drink ice-cold water with a squirt of lemon or lime juice.

  • Diet Trap: Cheese

A 1-ounce slice of cheddar cheese packs about 110 calories and 9 g of fat. Quick fix: Switch to reduced-fat cheese and part-skim mozzarella to save about 60 calories and 7 g of fat, yet still get the calcium you need for strong bones.

  • Diet Trap: Eating From The Bag/Box/Carton

Quick fix: Handfuls of snacks add up quickly. Before you know it, you've eaten half the bag and 600 calories or more. Count your chips or crackers, place them in a bowl, and put away the snack. Read the nutrition label to find out what counts as a serving.

  • Diet Trap: Greasy Pizza

Quick fix: Dab off about a teaspoon of oil with a napkin. From two pizza slices, you'll save 80 calories and 9 g of fat.

  • Diet Trap: Gigantic Restaurant Portions

Quick fix: Ask your server to bring a doggy bag to the table along with your meal. Pack up half right away and enjoy as leftovers.

  • Diet Trap: A Salad Swimming In Dressing

Quick fix: Request your salad dressing on the side, and try the fork-spear method: Dip your fork into the dressing with each bite and then spear the lettuce leaves. You can still make your salad as tasty as you like it.

  • Diet Trap: Fried Foods

Quick fix: Try broiled chicken tenders instead of breaded and fried. Or make homemade oven fries. Slice potatoes into wedges, boil them until almost cooked, spray lightly with olive oil or cooking spray and bake until crisp.

  • Diet Trap: Dessert

Quick fix: Think of dessert as a special treat — not a nightly affair. If you must have dessert, keep your portions in check, or go for a chocolate square instead of a candy bar. Or enjoy the sweet taste of fruit for dessert.

She overate without self control and gained the extra weight. There is no need to find feeble excuses. Now that she lost her extra blubber, what is there to be so proud of?

As someone who has a partner who lost 160 pounds, I am proud of her every day! It is a struggle every day to eat right and keep the weight off.

It is easy for people who do not have a weight problem, (I do not, I am a man who weighs 145 lbs), to judge those who do. Vimala your comment is just mean and nasty. I hope you never have to endure what my partner did.

I had a weight problem, I stopped eating too much. No big deal. took me 15 years to get fat took 6 months to lose a bunch and the rest came off gradually. In 3 years it is still off and I am old, handicapped and still take the medicine to stay alive that says you will gain weight. It's called Not Eating too much. I can't exercise except pushing the plate away.

Wow look @ you... You are perfect. Would you say you were proud of a Drug addict or alcoholic who kicked the habit? Proud of someone who quit smoking?. Well how is food any different? She was sad, she medicated ... she felt better. All addictions have side effects. Funny thing is with drugs you can quit cold turkey ... food, well you have to eat or you will die. This took lots of work! You don't have to be proud of her, others will be & will get strength to lose "blubber" I have 5 siblings... 2 can eat day & night & never gain a pound..while others have to be very careful.

Congratulations on all your dedication paying off with a healthier body.
You look beautiful in your "after" pics,
but I thought you looked beautiful in the "before" pics too.
The only difference is now you are healthier physically,
and can be more active without carrying the extra pounds.

I said I would lose all of my weight by 50, but it didnt' happen. So perhaps by 51 & 1/2?! Good for you Christine, & yes, your weight does tie in to your self-image. Keep up the great work!

I get so tired of people whining about their poor self-image. I can honestly say that I have met many people who thought far better of themselves than they really deserved to. If you don't like your self-image, change it...without the whining.

Not sure why developing early would cause stress. I, among many others, developed early with no ill effects. Glad you tackled your demons Christine & lost the emotional & physical baggage.
