Orange and vanilla chips add a tangy and sweet flavor to traditional scones. Yum!

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • Dash salt
  • 2 tablespoons firm butter (do not use margarine)
  • 2 tablespoons white vanilla baking chips
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated orange peel
  • 2 egg whites, beaten or1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons fat-free half-and-half

  • Heat oven to 400°F. In small bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in butter, using pastry blender (or pulling 2 table knives through ingredients in opposite directions), until mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Stir in 2 tablespoons of the baking chips, the orange peel, egg and half-and-half until soft dough forms.
  • On lightly floured surface, knead dough about 5 seconds or until dough is smooth. Pat dough into a round, 1/2 inch thick. Cut round into 4 wedges.
  • On ungreased cookie sheet, place wedges 1 inch apart. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until light golden brown. Remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack; cool 10 minutes.
  • In small microwavable bowl, place remaining 2 tablespoons baking chips. Microwave uncovered on High 1 minute; stir until chips are smooth. Place melted chips in resealable food-storage plastic bag; seal. Cut off tiny corner of bag; squeeze to drizzle melted chips over scones. Serve warm.
